JGS4 Rank Structure Policy

. . The intent of this document is to clearly define the standard guidelines for promotion within the individual Jasta and also the JGS4 Command Staff. It is designed to allow the extension of autonomy to the individual Jasta Commander, and also to provide incentive for volunteering for duty outside those of the standard Red Baron Pilot.
The Jasta Command Staff is updating the system of promotion to bring JGS4 into the new century of MMP gaming.

This document applies to current active and future JGS4 members. Any ranks attained by the Old Guard or retired pilots are to remain unchanged.

General Provisions:

I. A Jasta Commander, following the provided JGS4 guidelines, need not justify his rank structure to anyone except his own pilots.

II. Any Jasta Commander can formally challenge a promotion given outside the standard guidelines, but that challenge MUST be supported by evidence at the time the challenge is made. Any protest will be discussed and voted upon by the JGS4 Command Staff.

Method:

Time of Service

This function is a general guide for the Jasta Command Staff. These are minimum standards, subject to the discretion of the local Jasta Commander.

The Jasta Commander has the right and freedom to award a promotion, but a pilot must meet the minimum “time” to receive a promotion.

Unteroffizier, Ufz.

O months to 3 months, the Jasta Commander can promote before 3 months but must promote after 3 months to next level automatically or present to the pilot and the JGS4 Command Staff the reason for not promoting.

Feldwebel, Fwb.

3 months to 7 months, the Jasta Commander can promote before 7 months but must promote after 7 months to next level automatically or present to the pilot and the JGS4 Command Staff the reason for not promoting.

Oberfähnrich, Ofr.

7 months to 12 months, the Jasta Commander can promote before 12 months but must promote after 12 months to next level automatically or present to the pilot and the JGS4 Command Staff the reason for not promoting.

Leutnant, Ltn.

The Jasta Commander can promote before 12 months but must promote after 12 months or present to the pilot and the JGS4 Command Staff the reason for not promoting.

Leutnant is the highest rank a Jasta Commander can give freely without interference or concern, once the pilot meets this time minimum, they are at their highest point. To go higher they must be recommended by Officers of higher rank, for reasons the Senior Officers present to a majority of his equals or better in rank.

To gain higher than Leutnant, a pilot must be pre-approved, must have at the very least equal service time at any rank, or must have exceptional reasons given to promote.

Minimum Sequence of Promotions:

Ufz. = 0 months, Fwb. = 3 months, Ofr. = 7 months, Ltn. = must have met the first three requirements; 7 to 12 months

The first four steps in rank are the domain of the local Jasta Commander. These first four steps represent the Junior Grade staff of the individual Jasta. Contact your Jasta Commander for further explanation. You should remind your Jasta Commander one week before your minimum time in service of your next promotion. If you are not officially notified of your promotion, or if you feel that you have been unfairly passed over, you may present your reasons to the JGS4 Command Staff for review.

Senior Ranks, Field Grade Officers

Oberleutnant, Oblt.

Oberleutnant is the first step for an Executive Officer (XO) or second in command of a Jasta. It is also reserved for those pilots who take on internal Jasta duties such as Training Officer (TO), Recruiting Officer (RO) or any other titled office the Jasta Commander designates.

Hauptmann, Hpt.

Hauptmann will be the first rank step for a Jasta Commander.
It will also be the second step for an XO, TO or RO. This rank is given upon recommendation by the Jasta Commander and a vote of the JGS4 Command Staff. It is a reward for exemplary service and dedicated work. No pilot will be promoted above Hauptmann without having served in a Command Position (Jasta Commander or CiC) for at least 6 months.

Rittmeister, Ritt.

A rank given to Senior Jasta Commanders, this rank or title reserved for Jasta Commanders who have served as Jasta Commander for at least one year.

Major, Mjr.

Rank given to the CiC in honor of the position, it can be retained when they leave the position of CiC and rejoin their Jasta by vote of the JGS4 Command Staff. This is also the highest rank a Senior Jasta Commander can attain without ever being the CiC.

Oberst, Obst.

Rank given to the CiC after a minimum of 1 year (12 months) as an active CiC. This rank, if attained, is permanent for the Officer.
